It would seem that naming this blog "The Typewriter" is the antithesis of journalistic advancement. Why not the iPhone? the iPad? the i(whatever will be next)?
Well, for one thing, I've wanted to get my hands on a beautiful vintage typewriter for quite some time now. There are days when I want to turn off all my gadgets. I get nostalgic and romantic and want to flip time back and be able to be a writer peering over a typewriter, carefully choosing every word and phrase I write so that I wouldn't have to rip out the sheet of paper and start all over again.
And that brings me to the heart of it: carefully choosing words. In my idealist view of the typewriter I see it as a tool that forces the writer to not ramble off the first ho-hum sentence that comes to mind but consider her thoughts more attentively.
So this is my attempt of taking a fast-paced arena like the blog and forcing myself to slow down my thoughts enough that I consider the world around me more attentively. And if you happen to stumble upon a lovely old typewriter, please do send it my way.
